FBP facilitated a public design meeting on 10/21/15 that has put Seattle closer to getting a very special park, geared toward people with disabilities. It’s called a sensory garden and will help people with visual and hearing impairments, along with other challenges like autism. The garden is going to be an addition to the Rose Garden next to Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo. It will be the first of its kind in a Seattle city park. Currently still in the design phase, those who hope to use this park say it will help some enjoy outdoor experiences that most of us take for granted.

NEWS ARCHIVES:

The Fort Ward Bakery building, which used to be the center of bread making for the enlisted men at the Fort, is being renovated and converted into a community hall for the Fort Ward area. Three Bainbridge Island firms—Wenzlau Architects, Browne Wheeler Engineers, and Fischer Bouma Partnership planning and design studio—have pledged to contribute their services to the project. Charlie Wenzlau said, “Our architecture work has always been about reinforcing what we love about our island. We are excited to be able to help preserve a piece of our island history and create a place for the community to gather.” About the three firms, he said, “These three firms have a long working relationship on a variety of projects. Given their busy schedules, I am so grateful to have the Browne Wheeler and Fischer Bouma talents as part of the team.”
